The official freenode ircd project, hyperion-ircd, is a fork of our original server code project, dancer-ircd, which in turn was a fork of hybrid 6. The current hyperion-ircd tree is under active development and can be found here.

We're currently running hyperion-ircd 1.0.x, which is an interim source tree, but it's going to be carrying the load for freenode until a next generation tree is in place. If you'd like to help us maintain it, please stop by #hyperion on freenode.
